This is the whole book cover. I wanted to keep the texture on the whole book so that it is cohesive. I typed a small summary of the story on the back to keep it simple.

BookCover-front

This is the front of my cover. I want it to look like a record. I incorporated different items from the story into the illustration.

I found this by accident while searching for a typeface. I think I want to incorporate it into my design as a record. I want to incorporate some dancing people inside and other type. I am also going to explore with the title. It might go above the record or it might be incorporated in it.

My thought process was a continuation from before using the same objects. I combined the different images in many ways.

The Secret Sense

The story begins with a man and a martian. The man is playing some music for the martian. They talk about how they can communicate. They begin to talk about the senses and the things the martian is missing out on. The martian says that he has a secret sense. He is able to tell when something is poisonous or if there is a current in a wire. Fields finds out that he could have 5 minutes of using the sense if he wanted to but the martian urges him not to. He then asks for it under the sake of gratitude the martian owed him. The martian tells him he will be hearing part of a portwem (symphony). There was an instrument used for playing it. It has black knobs and white petals. He meets a man that plays the instrument and a man that is a physician. He intends to innoculate him for the 5 minutes. It began to work and he saw different hues of light and he heard different sounds. After these things he realized he had felt the sense. He couldn't name it but he knew he felt it. Then it started to fade after about 5 minutes. He was very upset that he lost his ability to experience it. The martian told him he was now blind because he knows how great of a sense that was but he can never experience it again.

Bullet in the Brain

This short story sets the scene in a bank where Anders is in line behind two women. He seems to be in a hurry because he gets a temper standing behind the women. One of the tellers had closed her line so Anders became angry. The next thing that happened was two men wearing black ski masks came in and held them all at gunpoint. The man in the mask had called all of the tellers over telling the one woman to fill the bag with money. Anders commented on her filling the bag and then the man in the mask told him to stop talking. He moved his pistol over Anders' body ending under his chin. While looking at the ceiling Anders remarked on the ceiling and its intricate paintings. Because Anders laughed the man said he would kill him if he messed with the man in the mask. He laughed again because the man said capiche and he immediately shot him. The next part was about the bullet and how it went through the brain in detail. He then went over what he wasn't thinking of before he died. He remembered a baseball field and a boy saying they is.

Why Don't You Dance?

This short story is about a man who is cleaning out his house because either his wife has left him or she died. It begins by telling us about all of the things he packed up to sell in his front yard. A man and woman stop by to look at the furniture. They decided that they want the bed, TV, and desk. The man eventually arrives there and notices the couple. He offers them whiskey and they get really drunk. He asks them "why don't you dance?" The girl and boy dance and after the record is over she looked at the man. They began to dance. Afterwards she remarked that he must be desperate because he was getting rid of everything. It ends when the girl tells others about her encounter at the mans house.
